#3 Reason We Know Jesus is Standing at the Door.
The Age of Apostasy!
Paul comforted the Thessalonians with these words, “Let no one in any way deceive you, for it [Jesus’ return] will not come unless the APOSTASY comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,” (2 Thess. 2:3, NASB).
Apostasy means to fall away from the truth [truth according to God not the world]. Therefore, an apostate is someone who has once believed (at least intellectually) and then later, rejects the truth of God. It is a rebellion against God because it is a rebellion against truth.
APOSTASY has spread like gangrene in the so called “church” today. Most “Christian” leadership today feel so uncomfortable preaching about sin and judgment. Rather there is a general sense that their ultimate goal is to grab hold of a perfect methodology to add numbers to their congregation. Using methods that only speak about the love and mercy of God not addressing the wrath of God. It is more profitable to feed the people motivational speeches on self-importance and self-esteem, in other words. The uncomfortable TRUTH is that TRUE Christianity is very exclusive, like it or not, by Jesus’ own words, “I am THE way THE truth and THE life. NO ONE (not even very beautiful and funny Oprah) comes to the Father except through me.” Also, the apostle John states in 1 John 4:6; “We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.” If we study the scriptures and see what the apostles taught, we will find that many today do not adhere to their message.
By now, many of you may be wondering, “What about this Oprah Winfrey stuff?” Did you know that Oprah was named after the biblical person of “OR – PAH” mentioned as the daughter-in-law of Naomi in the Book of Ruth? Ms. Winfrey’s mother simply misspelled her name on the birth certificate. Here is a “refresher” of the story found in the Book of Ruth:
A Jewish woman by the name of Naomi lost her husband and two sons and decided to leave the pagan country of Moab (modern day Jordan) and go back home to her own people; Israel. Orpah and Ruth were her Moabite daughter-in-laws. The Moabites were known for worshiping Moloch to which they would sacrifice their own children to. Ruth, protested to Naomi in tears, not to make her stay back. She said, “I will go where you go and your God will be my God.” After an initial half-hearted protest from Orpah, she decided she would turn back towards her people of Moab and follow after their false gods like Moloch. Something interesting that I came across while writing this blog was this statement concerning the Jewish people of God, “Moloch was one of the false gods that Israel would worship during its periods of apostasy.” Has American Christianity turned to Moloch in our apostasy too and have sanctioned the sacrificial killing of over 50 million babies since 1973?
According to an article in Jewish Women, A Comprehensive Historical Encyclopedia, [Moabite Orpah] after departing from Naomi is seen in a very unseemly light by Jewish historians. “…once Orpah had taken her leave of her mother-in-law, her subsequent actions are deemed extremely negative. She is said to have lain, that very night, with one hundred men, and even with a dog. The Philistine Goliath, who fought the young David during the battle in the valley of Elah, was born of this promiscuous activity. Orpah’s wanton behavior is said to be characteristic of the interpretation of her name,

Yeah, this is very sad. We need to pray for her an others like her to turn and repent. Nothing is impossible with God. When you know what she’s been through in her life it makes some of this craziness understandable but that doesn’t excuse her. I think with Oprah, curiosity got the cat. There’s a point where you say, you know, I don’t think I need to watch Oprah anymore. Even journalists surrounding her have tried to encourage her to come down from it all, even consider raising a child, and marry Steadman. She doesn’t know what kind of wonderful witness she could be if she would just marry him, yet she has continued to just live with him all these years. You don’t want to judge her because of her generosity but it’s hard not to see the obvious. Let’s pray that Jesus touches her heart before it’s too late. Wouldn’t she be an amazing witness for Jesus Christ if she turned back. Paul turned to God. She can too…I hope so and pray so for her sake.
