Adanna, which means, “Father’s daughter,” stood proudly holding out her beautiful, healthy and young heart for all to admire. It beat powerfully; full of enthusiasm. The strength of its pounding made it exceedingly desirable to all the young lads. She felt an urgency somehow, to give her heart treasure away. It was essential for her to satisfy the world’s demand to find a collector of jewels quickly.
He was so handsome and charming. The whole world fancied him. His name was Beor, which means “Foolish.” She carelessly committed to giving him her charming, energetic and fledgling heart. To her, it was like participating in a coronation; a rite of passage. She was extremely satisfied with herself. The world would look impressively at her. Finally, she had found someone like Beor, who would most certainly be the vinedresser of her life; tending to her inward sweetheart rose.
Beor took her heart heirloom eagerly, in front of all to see. He embraced it like it was precious gold mined from Australia. All Adanna ever wanted was to be taken care of, celebrated and loved. He satisfied all life’s expectations. Everyone admired the way he so tenderly cared for his new found red possession. He walked around with it wrapped in sea silk; an exceedingly fine fabric, known only to the ancients. He never let the pure rose out of his sight but instead, cleaved to it like valuable gold coins. He held it up high as one does after winning the game. The crowds went wild. He always had one arm around Adanna and the other, around that irreplaceable masterpiece of hers.
As time went by, though, he grew weary of carrying the treasure chest. He realized the heavy gems needed more attention than he was willing to give. Besides; the world had become fatigued with the whole idea of them now. Their envious eyes had turned elsewhere. Hence, Beor decided to give Adanna back her beloved wealth. He determined it was not near as stunning as it had been. Its appearance after all, had become like ashen with little vitality, unlike the brilliant rose pedal it once was.
